Intro to moorland navigation.
Learn basic navigation skills whilst enjoying a day long walk in the
beautiful Dartmoor.
Includes:
Indoor session – 1 hour.
Maps & scales; contours relief & height; taking a bearing from the
map & walking on it; taking a bearing from the ground & relating to
map.
On the walk – pacing & timing; finding features on the ground;
moving on steeper ground; using a compass.
Advanced Moorland Navigation
Learn the skills needed to navigate in the dark, or in poor visibility. To be able to pinpoint your location to within 10 metres in any weather and visibility can be critical at times. This is the navigational ability for anyone wishing to lead groups in wilderness.
GPS navigation for walkers and climbers.
Learn the strengths and weaknesses of GPS
navigation. Covering setting up your GPS, waymarking, route planning
from the GPS and computer, uploading and downloading routes,
backtracking. Use of digital mapping software.
This course is great for a hands on introduction
for those wanting to learn the use of handheld GPS
